Girls Rescued From Sambisa Forest are Not Chibok Girls – Army spokesman
The 200 Nigerian girls and 93 women rescued in army operation at Sambisa Forest are not Chibok school girls abducted last year, army spokesman has said.
Earlier, the Nigerian army announced the rescue of the 293 hostages after destroying three different Boko Haram camps in the forest, adding that it ‘can only confirm the rescue but yet to determine their origin as all the freed persons are now being screened and profiled.’
But a spokesman for the army, Colonel Sani Usman, has confirmed that the girls were not those kidnapped from Chibok by militant group Boko Haram in April 2014.
“The troops rescued 200 abducted girls (not Chibok girls) and 93 women,” Colonel Usman told Reuters in a text message.
The girls are those kidnapped from ‘Damboa, Madagali and Gumsiri.’
