My Death Threats Were Helpful – AIG Mbu

Controversial AIG, Joseph Mbu, is at it again, this time, the AIG in charge of Zone 2, has stirred up another controversy by saying the threats he issued to kill 20 people for every policeman killed in Lagos was the reason why peace ensued during the Lagos gubernatorial and house of assembly elections.

According to Punch, Mbu said this in his address to journalists on April 11, Saturday after monitoring the elections in some parts of the state.

He said: “the statement I made, which people misconstrued, also helped the police because people say, ‘this man has come o, and whatever he says, he means it’, and that instilled fear in them. Go and check all the places where I served, how many people have died? We don’t kill anyhow.
“But you have to instill fear so that people will have more respect for the police. Now we have succeeded as far as I am concerned”, he added.
Mbu’s admission that he issued  these death come as a surprise because back in February after these threats were issued, the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, CSP Gbenga Adeoye absolved Mbu of any wrong doing.
CSP Adeoye  had said the purported claims that Mbu threatened to kill 20 civilians was a “gross misinformation,” adding that those criticising Mbu should watch the video clips of his speech before berating him.
